Reports this evening confirmed that President Muhammadu Buhari has indeed accepted the resignation of Mrs. Kemi Adeosun, as Nigeria’s Mister of Finance.
The media has been awash all day with news and speculations about her resignation, following allegations over two months ago by an online news service that she fraudulently got the National Youth Service Corps exemption certificate which enabled her avoid the mandatory national service Nigerians who graduate from tertiary institutions in or outside Nigeria.
Many Nigerians had demanded that she quit the cabinet and get punished for the action but the government had repeatedly said the matter was being investigated.
A major tv station quoted Mrs. Adeosun this evening as saying she was not aware that the exemption certificate but following her new awareness of the report of the investigation into the matter, she has decided to resign from the Nigerian ministerial position.
Kemi Adeosun was appointed Minister of Finance President Muhammadu Buhari in November 2015, after serving as Finance Commissioner in her native Ogun State.
Many Nigerians, especially on social ,media, are divided over the path of resignation she has decided to take. While some feel it was long overdue as her continued stay was putting a lie to the government’s stance on corruption, others felt that she had made a genuine mistake and since she had done quite creditably as minister, she should have been allowed to continue with may be a rap on her knuckles.
