Hello there! Happy Mothers Day. How did you celebrate the Day today? Was there anything special?
Looks like this is the first Mothers Day we have had this year. Or have we had any yet? You mean you have not been counting or following?
I know that we must be ready to officially celebrate Mothers Day at least four times a year. Today, 4th Sunday in Lent, is a sure thing, at least in Nigeria; but there should be another on 19th April and then 2nd Sunday in May. I hear there could also be one again in July! Then there should be another one later in the year!
Na wa O! Didn’t we even mark the International Women’s Day a couple of weeks ago on the 8th of March?
Don’t ask me if it is possible or not to have a universally acceptable, single Mothers Day like we have for Fathers Day which is 16th of June. I am sure mothers don’t mind being celebrated every Sunday of the year.
Come to think of it – they shouldn’t mind being celebrated daily. After all they are mothers, right? But I am not sure daily celebration will work for the women because there would then be no fanfare and circumstance.
Seriously though, can’t the world just agree on one day? Big fanfare if you want, but one day worldwide that we will all celebrate all mothers. May be the United Nations should decide and fix such a day.
I am sure no other body can fix a universally acceptable day that can supersede other Mothers Days. This is not ‘bad belle’ at all O; after all everyone has or had a mother and it is only an insane person who will not celebrate his or her mother. But think of all the expense some of us sometimes go to for any kind of celebration.
Well, just a thought.
