Forbes List of The World’s Most Valuable Sports Teams for 2021 Out

Forbes list of the World’s Most Valuable Sports teams for 2021 are, for a change, not dominated by mostly American sports and teams, as has mostly been the case.

This time, soccer has broken the domination of baseball, basketball and American football on the roll of rich sports teams.

Surprisingly, in spite of the global pandemic, the average value of the 50 most valuable sports teams jumped 9.9% from last year, to $3.4 billion, up 55% from five years ago. 

The 50 teams on this year’s list come from four sports.

American football has 26 teams on the list, followed by basketball with 9, soccer has 9 while baseball features 6.

The Dallas Cowboys who play American football are the world’s most valuable sports team. They are worth an estimated of $5.7 billion, followed by Major League Baseball’s New York Yankees with $5.25 billion. New York Knicks of the NBA are third with $5 billion. The Americans’ stronghold on the top-five is broken by Barcelona and Real Madrid soccer clubs of Spain, each with a valuation of just above $4.7 billion.

  5. Real Madrid of Spanish La Liga (Soccer) with value of $4.75 billion
  6. Golden State Warriors, NBA. Value: $4.7 billion
  7. Los Angeles Lakers, NBA. Value: $4.6 billion
  8. New England Patriots (NFL). Value: $4.4 billion
  9. New York Giants (NFL). Value: $4.3 billion
  10. Bayern Munich of the German Bundesliga (Soccer). Value. $4.21 billion
  11. Manchester United of the English Premier League, EPL. (Soccer). Value: $4.2 billion
  12. Liverpool of the EPL (Soccer). Value: $4.1 billion

Soccer followers will be happy with the rise of several soccer clubs on the teams, in spite of the ban on crowds at match venues – a usual revenue yielding part of soccer all over the world. In fact, club values went up by 30% on average in the past two years from several investment ventures in soccer.

Owners and fans FC Barcelona will be glad because their club is, for the first time, the highest-ranked soccer team the Forbes list of the world’s 20 most valuable soccer teams. The club overthrew country rival Real Madrid from the top to second spot. The top spot has always been dominated by the EPL’s Manchester United and Real Madrid.
